Statement: Permanent Closure for Ikhtyar African Feminist Collective’s Activities

We write today in celebration of 10 years since Ikhyar’s foundation. We also announce our decision to permanently freeze Ikhtyar’s activities, learning circles, writing workshops and knowledge production, as we transform it into an archive.  We are proud of our collective’s work in producing Arabic intersectional feminist knowledge for the past decade. We are proud of the work we have done in a challenging context, both at the local and international fronts. It has been a decade of feminist imagination and dreams of a better world for all of us. We already miss our community of readers, writers, researchers, editors, illustrators and translators.  As an archive, our production of publications, studies, podcasts and translations continues to exist under Creative Commons 4.0 license; this is an invitation to all of you  to cite our literature and to continue building on it.

We hope to find and build feminist companionship as we keep on working and building the worlds we deserve. We have faith Ikhtyar will stay alive in your references, lectures, writings, and studies as it starts its new life as an archive of our collective feminist literature.
